After hours and hours of trawling the interweb and reading many reviews on Trip Advisor, we've found several accommodation options in both Varenna and Bellagio, for those of you making the trip to Italy.

Eremo Gaudio - up in the hill beside Varenna - not sure about access!!

Bellagio is a short (15 min) ferry ride across Lake Como, and is a bigger town than Varenna, so has more accommodation options - these are the ones I like the look of and they have good reviews.

Bellagio Bed and Breakfast - new and looks great!

Menaggio - across the lake from Bellagio and Varenna - also connected by the frequent ferries, though these don't run as late as the ferry's between Bellagio and Varenna.
La Primula - Youth Hostel - has private/family rooms
Tremezzo - this is the town where we are having the reception, and is only a few minutes walk to the Villa Carlotta. It has good ferry connections to the other lake towns - but again, these don't run too late into the night!!
